American Roulette

Roulette is somewhat unique amongst modern table games in that it employs a mechanical device as the key element of the game. This is the large and very distinct Roulette wheel, which is mounted horizontally on one end of the table. The hollow of the wheel has numbered pockets ranging from zero to thirty-six.

Wagers in Roulette are placed on an area of the table marked with a pattern of boxes and numbers. This is called the game layout. You may place wagers on any particular number, any 4 adjacent numbers, a column or a 'dozens' bet.

The wheel is used to determine the outcome of a game of Roulette. Once the bets have been placed the wheel is set spinning and a small (usually metal or ivory) ball is spun onto the wheel in the opposite direction to that of the spinning wheel. The ball will rapidly loose speed and eventually stop in one of the pockets. The number of the pocket is the winning number.

Objective of the game

The game of Roulette is played by spinning a small ball around a wheel that contains thirty-seven numbered slots. When the wheel stops, the ball comes to rest in one of these slots. The object of Roulette is to correctly predict the slot in which the ball will land. By predicting the right number, you earn a payoff on your bet. The size of the payoff depends on how the bet was placed.

Playing the Game

There are two basic steps to follow to play a game of Roulette.

First you must decide on which numbers or groups of numbers to bet on. You can do this by moving the mouse over the table felt and left clicking to deposit chips on the table. Right clicking will remove chips. You can place chips on individual numbers or on the borders shared by two or four numbers.

Once you have decided upon your bet press the Spin button to start the game. The roulette wheel will spin and the ball will be placed on the wheel. It will soon come to rest in one of the numbered pockets on the wheel.

If the number falls with in the range of any one of your bets then you have won. Refer to the Table Limits and Odds section to find out more about how much each kind of bet is worth.

Bets

There are several types of bets that can be placed on the Roulette table:

Straight Up
This is a bet on any single number and odds of 35-1 are paid on a winning number.
Column Bet
This bet is placed on any of the three columns of twelve numbers running along the table. The odds are 2-1 for a winning bet. If 0 comes up, the column bets lose.
Dozen Bet
This bet is placed on the outside boxes marked 1st, 2nd and 3rd 12. The player will bet on numbers 1 to 12, numbers 13 to 24 and/or numbers 25 to 36. The odds are 2-1 for a winning bet. If 0 comes up the dozens bets lose.

Red/Black Bet
A player can bet on either a black or red number coming up. The odds here are even (1-1). If 0 comes up the black and red bets lose.

Odd/Even Bet
A player can bet on either an odd or even number coming up. The odds here are even (1-1). Again, if 0 comes up the odd and even bets lose.

Low/High Number Bet
The player can bet on the high box (1 to 18) or the low box (19 to 36). The odds are even (1-1) for the winning bet. If 0 comes up the high and low bets lose.

Split Bet
A player may place a bet on any line that divides any two adjacent numbers. The bet is that either of those two numbers will come up. The odds are 17-1.
Street Bet
Three Bet
A player can bet on the three numbers including zero by placing the bet/chip(s) on intersection of three numbers. The bet is that one of the three numbers will come up. The odds are 11-1.
Corner Bet
The bet is placed on the intersection of four numbers. The bet is that one of these four numbers will come up. The odds are 8-1 for a winning number.
First Four Bet
The bet is placed on the outside of the line that splits two rows of numbers and zero. The bet is that one of these four numbers will come up. The odds are 8-1 for a winning number.
Line Bet
This bet is placed on the outside of the line that splits two rows of numbers. This will cover all six numbers. The bet is that one of the six numbers will come up. The odds here are 5-1 for a winning number.
