The Blackjack Themed Game Show Catch 21

Catch 21 was a popular game show hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro that revolved around Blackjack. The game consisted of three regular rounds and a possible bonus round. The game show ran for four years and reruns can still be seen on the Game Show Network (GSN).

The Game
Each game started with three contestants, each one dealt with one card. Like blackjack the object of the game is to score 21 while making the opponents go over that number. Multiple choice questions are then asked, and the winner draws another card. The person who gets it can choose to keep the card or pass it on to an opponent.

When a contestant who has the board (they have most recently won) and feels like they have a winning hand, they can freeze their hand and make the other two contestants continue to play. There are now ties.

Scoring:
Players receive 100 points per question, with a bonus of 500 points if he or she wins the round.

The Main Game:
Rounds 1 and 2 are played with all three contestants. After the second round, the player with the lowest score is eliminated. Then the two remaining players face off in round three to see who will move on to the bonus round. The winner automatically receives $1,000 for being the last player in the game.

The Bonus Round:
The bonus round consists of three hands. One card is dealt to the player each hand, and a player receives a number of “Power Chips” based on how many rounds that player won during the regular game. “Power Chips” are a special token which allow players to switch unwanted cards.

In the Bonus round cards are revealed one at a time from the deck. The player chooses which hand each card will go to. The goal is get three hands worth 21 in order to win the grand prize.

The prize that is as follows:
One hand of 21: $1,000
Two hands of 21: $5,000
Three hands of 21: $25,000

The player can walk away after winning any of the smaller prizes, but once they choose to move on, they risk all of their money.
